2 medium white pomfret fish, cleaned and cut
-
2 medium onions, finely chopped
-
2 medium tomatoes, pureed
-
1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
-
2 tbsp cooking oil
-
½ tsp turmeric powder
-
1 tsp red chilli powder
-
1 tsp coriander powder
-
½ tsp cumin powder
-
½ tsp garam masala
-
½ tsp cumin seeds
-
Salt to taste
-
1 cup water, as needed
-
Fresh coriander leaves
-
1 tsp lemon juice
Cooking Method
-
Marinate the fish: Rub the pomfret with salt, turmeric, chilli powder and lemon juice. Rest for 10–15 minutes.
-
Fry the fish: Heat oil in a pan and lightly fry the fish on both sides. Remove and keep aside.
-
Prepare the masala: In the same pan, add cumin seeds and chopped onions. Cook until golden brown.
-
Add aromatics: Mix in the ginger-garlic paste and cook until its raw smell disappears.
-
Make the curry: Add tomato puree, coriander powder, cumin powder, chilli powder and salt. Cook until the masala thickens and oil begins to separate.
-
Simmer: Add water to achieve your preferred gravy consistency. Simmer for 5 minutes.
-
Add the fish: Gently place the pomfret into the curry and cook for 8–10 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through.
-
Garnish and serve: Sprinkle garam masala and fresh coriander. Serve hot with steamed rice, jeera rice or naan.
