  • blog-image

If you are a true lover of bold and flavorful mutton recipes, this spicy mutton curry (desi style) is a must-try. Known for its rich aroma, deep spices, and tender meat, this dish is one of the most popular Indian mutton curry recipes. At NonVeg Adda, we bring you this traditional recipe that delivers restaurant-style taste right in your kitchen.

    Ingredients Required

To prepare this delicious spicy mutton curry, you will need:

    • 500 grams fresh mutton (bone-in preferred)

    • 3 medium onions (finely chopped)

    • 2 tomatoes (pureed)

    • 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste

    • 3-4 green chilies (slit)

    • ½ cup mustard oil (or any cooking oil)

    Spices:
    • 1 tsp turmeric powder

    • 2 tsp red chili powder

    • 1 tsp coriander powder

    • 1 tsp cumin powder

    • 1 tsp garam masala

    • 1 bay leaf

    • 1 cinnamon stick

    • 3-4 cloves

    • 2 green cardamoms

    • Salt to taste

    Garnish:
    • Fresh coriander leaves

     Step-by-Step Cooking Process

Step 1: Heat Oil & Whole Spices

Start by heating mustard oil in a heavy-bottom pan or pressure cooker. Once hot, add bay leaf, cinnamon, cloves, and cardamom. Let them release their aroma - this is the base of your authentic desi mutton curry.

    Step 2: Sauté Onions

Add finely chopped onions and cook until they turn golden brown. This step is crucial for achieving the rich flavor typical of traditional Indian mutton dishes.

    Step 3: Add Ginger-Garlic & Chilies

Now add ginger-garlic paste and green chilies. Sauté until the raw smell disappears. This enhances the spicy depth of the spicy mutton curry recipe.

    Step 4: Cook Tomato Masala

Add tomato puree and cook well. Then mix in turmeric, red chili powder, coriander powder, and cumin powder. Cook until oil starts separating from the masala -this ensures your curry gets that thick, rich texture.

Step 5: Add Mutton & Roast

Add the mutton pieces and mix thoroughly with the Spice. Roast the mutton for 8-10 minutes on medium flame. This step locks in flavor and gives the curry a deep, authentic taste.

    Step 6: Pressure Cook

Add enough water (about 1-1.5 cups), salt, and close the lid. Pressure cook for 4-5 whistles or until the mutton becomes tender. Slow cooking helps develop the best mutton curry flavor.

    Step 7: Final Touch

Once done, open the lid and simmer for a few minutes if needed. Add garam masala and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.

     Serving Suggestions

At NonVeg Adda, we recommend pairing it with rice for the best experience.
